Pine Wood Lego Table

The spare lego pieces are both the best and worst.  The best because this is where imaginations come alive.  The worst because no one wants to step on a lego, much less pick them up constantly.  Lego pieces are getting smaller and smaller.  And more of them.

So I decided to build a lego table for my littles to pile their mix matched and leftover legos into.

It conveniently hinges closed to hide it all and create a surface for other play –

And you can build storage for under it, if you want.

I know this one looks complicated, but it really isn’t!

You can build this project with just off the shelf pine boards, some screws or nails, and your basic saws.  Nothing fancy needed here!

It’s the season of giving!  I partnered up with Jaime Costiglio to bring you a brand new free gift plan, every Friday in the 12 weeks leading up to Christmas!  Over the years, we’ve gifted hundreds of plans, many that you can make with scrap wood.  Check out the entire Handbuilt Holiday Collection here.

Full Length Mirror with Storage

Are you looking for a perfect gift for a teen girl?  A beauty center may be just right, and we came up with this mirror with storage thinking of our own daughters getting ready in the morning.  Here’s why we love it.

  • Uses an expensive full length mirror, so no need for a separate hair/makeup mirror and outfit mirror
  • Elevates the full length mirror off the floor (so you can vacuum under it)
  • Compact, so can work in small rooms or even bathrooms
  • Handy storage that is out of sight – all the tools and beauty essentials just where you need them, but out of sight
  • A quick DIY project that won’t cost a ton but will be used and appreciated.

This is an easy beginner project that does not require fancy tools or lots of woodworking experience.  Just cut and screw together, nail boards to the front!

Customization Ideas

This is a very easy project to customize.  Here’s a few ideas:

  • Add an interesting back, pallet wood, shiplap, or a faux stone
  • Use reclaimed wood or scrap wood on the front facing pieces for a rustic look that saves money
  • Add moulding under the top for a fancier look
  • Hooks for stockings across the top to make hanging stockings easy
  • Try a rustic stain to add a farmhouse feel to your home

Real Family Builds it – Watch and See!

Our social media manager Jennifer built this with her family.  Jennifer considers herself a beginner woodworker and only has a few tools and a basic garage to work out of.  Watch her build it in this video:

Christmas Tree Card Holder

Finding a beautiful way to display Christmas cards without damaging them with tacks or tape, or having to hand a card holder on the wall is always a challenge.  So we designed a wood Christmas tree decoration, designed to hold Christmas cards.

  • Freestanding – can set on a console table or even the floor
  • Simple and beautiful, allowing your Christmas cards to stand out
  • Solid wood – can be painted or stained any color
  • Can be used as an alternative Christmas tree – just add gifts underneath!  Perfect for small or temporary spaces.
  • Unique – this is an original design that you won’t find anywhere else (yet!)
  • This is a great Craft Bazaar item – build and sell!
