$30 Industrial Bookshelf

Industrial Bookcase Highlights

  • Inexpensive, only about $30 to build
  • Features four large, roomy shelves and a top
  • Works with lots of styles – farmhouse, industrial, modern, rustic
  • Build your own and choose your own paint or stain!
  • Open design makes rooms feel larger while providing lots of storage options
  • Easy to clean underneath with high bottom shelf
  • Back panels add design and structure – this bookshelf is very sturdy
  • Only need basic woodworking tools – a drill, saw, brad nailer (or hammer) and Kreg Jig

I needed some storage desperately in my home office area.  Since my office area is open to the rest of the home – in a narrowish passage between the great room and dining room – something light and airy was definitely in order!  I love me a quick and inexpensive project – so I designed this industrial bookcase using only about $30 in materials!

Yes, you read that right!  THIRTY BUCKS for each industrial bookcase!

We love the open bookshelf design.  And the open bookshelf allows the passage area to feel light and airy!

They are ridiculously gorgeous!  So suprising for how simple and inexpensive they were to make.

Of course, what goes in an open bookshelf matters quite a bit!  We found most of the accessories at Micheals –

The Squeeze the Day art was from Micheals and was the inspiration for the accessories.  The faux plant is from Target. Baskets are from Lowes.

The letter sorter is awesome! It’s from Micheals (as is the craft organizer on the upper shelf)

The faux lemon tree and metal sign are also from Micheals.  Those two items really helped decorate the open shelving!  I also love the plywood backs – it really adds interest and structure too.

I’m so excited to share the plans for this project with you!

We filmed the build – so do watch that –

$20 Modern Farmhouse Console Table – Inspired by Pottery Barn Grove Console Table

Modern Rustic X Console Highlights

  • Two large slatted shelves
  • Large top surface
  • Beautiful design adds storage and functionality to your space
  • Solid wood construction perfect for staining and adding wood texture to your space
  • Inexpensive to build from 2x2s and 1x3s – no plywood or table saw required!
  • Only about $20 in materials to make each console

We just purchased a sectional for our great room, and knew we needed a behind the couch table for setting drinks, remotes, magazines, and other things on.  I also wanted to incorporate a desk for a laptop.  So we built this!

It’s really two consoles –

With a bridge for a desk built in between –

Since we used off the shelf pine furring strips, this project only cost about $40 total to make!  That’s right – this EXTRA long console was only about FORTY BUCKS!

We videoed the build process for you –

And are sharing the plans below.

Please share if you build, we love seeing your finished projects!

PS – Want to build a matching end table?  We have plans for this Modern Rustic X End Table here

Farmhouse End Table inspired by Pottery Barn Grove Table

End tables are essential to a living room.  They not only add to the function by storing and providing a tabletop surface – but they define the structure of the living room and add beauty.

We needed end tables for our living room.  I love our Rustic X End Table plans, but the substantial overhangs of the tops would be a hazard for our 9 month old baby.  I spotted some similar living room tables in a catalog, without the overhangs – but the set would cost over $1600!  So I decided to DIY my own end tables.

We ended up building a console table with desk bridge (plans in the works) and a end table.  The two tables transformed our living room!  Not only does the space function much better, but it just looks so much better now!  And there’s a good amount of storage now, both hidden and not.  We love love love it all!

The farmhouse end table is maybe my most favorite!

It’s the perfect size, the perfect height, and the perfect mix of rustic and modern.  It’s so sturdy – we find ourselves moving it all around the living room to use for playing cards or board games or serving food and drinks off of.

We spent about $20 building it – yup, TWENTY BUCKS for this beautiful farmhouse end table!  What a bargain!

The plans are following, please share if you build, we love seeing your projects!  It’s a big deal!
